"Being a producer doesn't always have to mean interfering in every part of the process.
If something feels right we should leave it as it is  and focus on improving the grey areas"

Iain McKinna (Head Producer)

What does a music producer do?

The role of the music producer is to bring a project in on budget and to help facilitate an artists vision of their music. Traditionally a recording engineer and a producer were two very distinct roles. Now engineer/producers can be the same person. A producers role can't be quite as easily defined. Collaboration is normal between artist and producer at Offbeat. It's all about chemistry and whether you want someone to control the entire process or whether you want to be part of a team.

What does it cost to produce a record or album?

Costs vary depending on the scope of the project — recording, arranging, mixing, mastering, and session players can all be involved. Once we’ve discussed your goals and music, I’ll provide a clear estimate.

Does a producers fee/royalty include studio time?

A music producer and studio time are seperate costs. Part of the production role is to schedule studio costs for a project and keep it on track.

What styles of music does Offbeat specialise in?

We focus on projects that combine acoustic and electronic elements, from singer-songwriters to contemporary pop, dance and experimental soundscapes. If your music fits within this blend, we may be the right production partner for you.

Do you work with every artist who gets in touch?

No. To keep quality high, I only take on a few serious projects each year. Both artist and producer need to feel a strong creative fit before moving forward. I won't take on a production if I don't feel an affinity with the music.

How long does a project usually take?

Timelines depend on complexity and availability. A single track can often be produced in a matter of weeks, while larger projects or albums may take several months.
